Exhibit A: Gary Dell'Abate. He's Howard Stern's producer, and has been since Howard's very early days. He makes a very healthy salary (you'd be shocked at how healthy), and lives in an upscale community in Connecticut. According to this morning's RAMP newsletter, that community hasn't exactly embraced him...
Congrats to Howard Stern's longtime producer Gary "Baba Booey" Dell'Abate, who overcame some stiff (and pointless) local opposition to finally earn his rightful appointment to Greenwich, CT parks and advisory board that oversees local beaches and sports fields. "My selectman asked me to do it because he knows my involvement in team sports," Dell'Abate tells RAMP. According to various published reports, there was a contentious, two-month debate over Dell'Abate's candidacy for the board because certain, shall we say, snooty and unenlightened citizens of the affluent New York bedroom community couldn't seem to separate Dell'Abate the family man from the on-air reputation he has thanks to The Howard Stern Show. Dell'Abate was approved this week by a 119-64 margin. "I didn't expect the resistance I got, but I also received a ton of support from good friends," he says.
It doesn't help when your nickname is Baba Booey. I was always thankful that my worst nickname was "Rick the German Boy."
