Restricting School Food Is No Fun

Restricting food at school canteens takes all the fun out of life for kids. Though increasingly many school are ignoring state government programs and selling "banned" food. Allowing "junk" food to be sold only twice a term is too limiting and quite meaningless. At lunch times high school students are going to the local shop and buying what they want.

There is nothing wrong with pies and sausage rolls in a normal healthy diet. Octogenarians have regularly eaten such food all their lives. Elderly people also have a sweet tooth and eat cakes and ice cream. Couples are seen at shopping centres partaking of coffee and and cake. The key word is moderation. Packets of chips with empty calories are the real culprits.

Obesity starts in the home not at school. It is what parents feed their children that is the issue. The colour-coding system is farcical and childish. Of course children don't want to be seen by their peers eating the good stuff. If tasty food is not sold schools will have to subsidize canteens. They certainly won't make a profit.

NSW Is Arrogant in Believing It Can Retain the NRL Grand Final

NSW will retain the National Rugby League grand final despite the fact that Queensland and Victoria have teams in the competition. This is the height of arrogance. Everyone knows Queensland players are the best in the country. The state expects to keep it for the next 10 years. This will not happen. Pressure will be brought to bear on NRL officialdom.

Having a large stadium is not the only factor in this. More teams will become established in other states. Queensland especially will push for a piece of the $10 million on offer to stage the grand final. NSW is wasting its money in investing $45 million in upgrading the Sydney venue. Let's face it Queensland deserves a go at this because Queensland players provide the high drama of the State of Origin. Without the drubbing that Queensland gives NSW the competition would be nothing.

Of course the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW is happy with the government funding. But it too should face the reality that rugby league is changing every year. Power will not always reside in NSW. By definition it is the National Rugby League.

Greens Groups Are Causing Divison Among Aboriginals Over NW Project

The Greenies and Aboriginals are at odds with each other. While Aboriginals are trying to get a share of the mineral boom, Greenies want to end it. A case in point is Broome in Western Australia where the WA Premier has said that if Aboriginals don't agree to what has been offered the state will allow development anyway. Greenies have responded to this with abuse of parliamentarians and lying about the consequences.

Save the Kimberley environmental groups and Wilderness Society have caused so much trouble that Aboriginal families are arguing with each other. Aboriginals want job creation. Greenies are not interested in more jobs. Greenies have even accused Aboriginals of being in league with developers.

Coming in and throwing your weight around to get what you want is not the way to go. Greenies carry a lot of weight and they are damaging Aboriginal communities by pretending to help native people. Greenies are trying to stop the gas hub at all costs and the cost could ultimately be met by Aboriginals who loose out on everything if they don't sign on the line.

Green groups are blaming the state and federal governments for causing division among Aboriginals when it is Greenies who are causing it.

State Government to Force People to Sell Their Land to Developers

State Government is to help developers buy land. The New South Wales government is bringing in legislation which will establish a state body to compulsorily purchase land then on sale it at a special price to land developers - and you can bet that price will be low, below the going rate I should imagine.

What would be the purpose of setting up something that forces people to part with their land if it wasn't to help developers get that land? The state government gives the excuse of the renewal of Sydney. This of course is to hide the real reason from voters.

"The key is we do need to ensure that land holders are fully compensated." Yeah, sure. For landholders to be "fully compensated" let developers offer them the going rate for land.

Thankfully, the conservative opposition has seen the scam and is protesting. One would expect such a policy to be from a conservative government, but this is a Labor government. Relieving the land shortage by making some land cheap is not the answer. Developers will soon up the price when they on sale it.
